MAPIC India 2025 Concludes with a Focus on India’s $2 Trillion Retail Opportunity

MAPIC India 2025, the country’s premier retail ecosystem event, successfully concluded its 21st edition at the Jio World Convention Centre, Mumbai. The two-day event was a hub of transformative discussions, high-profile launches, and the prestigious Retail Awards that recognized excellence across the sector.

This year’s theme, “Next-Gen Retail: Navigating Disruption, Seizing Opportunities,” brought together over 2,500 delegates, 375 exhibitors, and more than 150 speakers from India and abroad. Industry leaders explored the growth trajectory of the $2 trillion Indian retail market, addressing how technology, consumer behavior shifts, and sustainability are shaping the sector’s future.

Key highlights included the launch of Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail’s OWND!, a youth-focused format targeting Gen Z shoppers, with plans to expand to 400 outlets in the next three to five years. JLL’s India Retail Report revealed that the Food & Beverage sector has become the cornerstone of retail real estate, driving 4 million sq. ft. of leasing across top cities in the past 10 quarters. Deloitte hosted a closed-door roundtable and thematic sessions spotlighting supply chain resilience and sustainability as crucial levers for competitive retailing.

“India’s retail sector is on track to cross the $2 trillion mark within this decade, driven by rising discretionary spending, the rapid expansion of Tier II and III cities, and a digital-first Gen Z consumer base that already accounts for nearly a quarter of online lifestyle purchases. At MAPIC India 2025, we’ve seen how new Indian & International retail brands, investors, developers are aligning to capture this momentum, whether through experiential centers becoming the anchor of new retail spaces, or emerging D2C brands moving with both digital and physical models. RX India’s MAPIC is the ultimate platform where these conversations translate into business collaborations and growth strategies. The scale and energy of this year’s edition reinforces one clear message: India is no longer a follower in global retail, it is a market that is shaping the future of retail worldwide,” said Umang Gupta, Country Head, RX India.

The two-day event featured power-packed panels such as “The $2 Trillion Retail Dream,” “Sky High Retail: Airports as Shopping Superhubs,” and “Planet First, Future Forward,” where leaders from Shoppers Stop, Pizza Hut, PVRINOX, Lacoste, Swarovski, Myntra, Hidesign, The Sleep Company, and many more discussed the balance between profitability and purpose in retail.

The Retail Awards 2025 capped the event, celebrating innovators across categories from omni-channel excellence to food services, fashion, and retail tech. Winners reflected India’s fast-evolving consumer landscape and the industry’s pivot toward technology-driven, customer-centric models.

By reinforcing collaboration between global and Indian players, MAPIC India 2025 once again cemented its role as the defining platform shaping the future of retail in India.
