MCD Extends Property Tax Amnesty Scheme SUNIYO 2025-26 Until December 31

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has extended the deadline for its one-time property tax amnesty scheme, Sumpattikar Niptaan Yojana (SUNIYO) 2025-26, by three months to December 31, according to a PTI report.

The scheme was initially valid until September 30. The terms of the scheme will largely remain unchanged during the extension, except that a 2% late fee on the principal tax amount will be applicable for payments made between October 1 and December 31.

Launched on June 1, SUNIYO has seen significant participation from 1.16 lakh taxpayers, generating ₹370.27 crore in revenue. Notably, 65,874 new property owners paid tax for the first time under the scheme, contributing Rs 187.8 crore.

For the current financial year 2025-26, MCD’s total property tax collection stands at Rs 2,111.63 crore from 11.63 lakh taxpayers. This represents a 22.5% rise in revenue and an 18% growth in the taxpayer base compared to the same period last year.

The extension of the SUNIYO scheme is expected to provide additional relief to property owners who may have missed the initial deadline. The 2% late fee is a small price to pay for the opportunity to clear outstanding property taxes and avoid the higher penalties that would otherwise apply.

MCD's efforts to increase property tax compliance and revenue collection are part of a broader strategy to improve urban infrastructure and services in Delhi. The success of the SUNIYO scheme underscores the importance of such initiatives in fostering a more transparent and efficient tax collection system.

For more information on the SUNIYO scheme, property owners can visit the MCD's official website or contact their local MCD office. The extension of the scheme is a positive step towards ensuring that more property owners can benefit from the amnesty and contribute to the city's development.
