Real Estate Pune:Microsoft has taken a significant step in expanding its presence in India by acquiring a 16.4-acre land in Hinjewadi, Pune. The tech giant has purchased the land for approximately Rs 520 crore, marking a substantial investment in the commercial real estate sector. This move is part of the company's strategy to establish more data centres, development centres, and office spaces to accommodate its growing workforce.

The transaction, registered in August 2024, involved the purchase of land from Indo Global Infotech City. Notably, this is not the company's first major land acquisition in the region. In 2022, Microsoft had acquired a 25-acre plot in Pimpri-Chinchwad for Rs 328 crore.

Earlier this year, Microsoft secured 48 acres of land in Hyderabad for Rs 267 crore. Both deals are part of the company's expansion plans in India, particularly within its data centre operations. Currently, Microsoft operates a network of data centres in Pune, Mumbai, and Chennai.

The company's workforce in India comprises over 23,000 employees across cities such as Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Pune. In a bid to upskill the Indian workforce, Microsoft launched a skilling initiative in early 2024, aiming to equip two million individuals with AI and digital skills by 2025.
