Minor Intercepted with 10 kg of Ganja at MMTS Station; Mumbai Drug Syndicate Exposed

A minor was caught at the Nature Cure MMTS station in Hyderabad in possession of 10 kilograms of ganja, valued at approximately Rs 5 lakh. The 17-year-old was allegedly being exploited by a Mumbai-based drug syndicate for interstate drug trafficking. The crime came to light in a joint operation by the EAGLE Force and SR Nagar Police, who apprehended the juvenile along with the drugs and other incriminating material.

The arrest took place on January 5 at the Nature Cure Hospital MMTS Railway Station, when the juvenile was waiting to board a train to Mumbai. Acting on specific inputs, the joint team intercepted him and recovered five packets of ganja packed in a sky-blue travel bag, wrapped with brown tape.

Preliminary investigation revealed that drug syndicates from Mumbai had adopted a new modus operandi, using juveniles to evade police scrutiny. Due to his poor financial background, the boy, who works as a tempo cleaner in Mumbai, was allegedly lured into trafficking with the promise of small monetary gains. In the last week of December 2025, the main accused, Hazi Shafiullah Shaik, reportedly instructed the juvenile to travel to Odisha under the pretext of transporting a tempo, offering him Rs 1,500 as remuneration.

The juvenile travelled to Malkangiri, where he met another accused, Mehfuz and stayed for two days. On January 4, Mehfuz allegedly directed the juvenile to travel to Hyderabad. At the Nature Cure Hospital Railway Station, Mehfuz handed over the ganja-filled travel bag and instructed the juvenile to take it to Mumbai and deliver it to Khala, the mother-in-law of Hazi Shafiullah Shaik.

Police have identified the following absconding drug suppliers, all residents of Mumbai: Mehfuz, Hazi Shafiullah Shaik, and Khala (mother-in-law of Hazi Shafiullah Shaik). The juvenile, along with the seized material, has been handed over to the SR Nagar Police for further legal proceedings. A case has been registered vide Cr. No. 10/2026 under Sections 8(c), 20(b)(ii)(B), and 29 of the NDPS Act, along with Section 78 of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015.

Officials stated that the case underscores the serious threat posed by drug syndicates exploiting minors, warning that such practices not only violate the law but also endanger the future of vulnerable youth. The EAGLE Force reiterated its commitment to sustained action against drug trafficking to safeguard public health and safety.
