Monsoon Mayhem: Potholed Roads Plague Pimpri-Chinchwad Due to Continuous Rainfall
Real Estate Pune:The continuous rainfall in Pimpri-Chinchwad over the past four days has left internal roads in a state of disarray, with numerous potholes emerging. According to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), a total of 2003 potholes were identified on various roads, with 1580 already filled. However, 423 potholes still remain, posing a significant threat to commuters.

This year's rains began at the end of June, and the city has been experiencing heavy downpours in recent days. As a result, potholes have appeared on roads in areas such as Pimpri, Chinchwad, Nigdi, Bhosari, Navi Sangvi, old Sangvi, Wakad, Tathawade, Punawale, Thergaon, Chikhali, and Akurdi. By 13th July, 1639 potholes had been identified, and an additional 364 were found by 22nd July.

The PCMC administration has used various materials to fill the potholes, including asphalt and cold tar mix, gravel, paving blocks, and cement concrete. Despite their efforts, potholes are still visible on many city roads, causing accidents and disrupting traffic flow. Water accumulating in the potholes makes it difficult for drivers to anticipate their presence, leading to accidents, especially for bikers.

Former corporator Amit Gawade has criticized the PCMC administration for failing to fill the potholes before the monsoon, demanding immediate action. While asphalting during the rainy season is impractical, the PCMC City Engineer Makarand Nikam has assured that all potholes will be filled with asphalt once the monsoon ends.

Public representatives and officials often shift the blame for the recurring pothole problem during the monsoon season. Driver Nitin Gawade suggests that holding everyone accountable, from the engineers who design the roads to the contractors who build them, might prevent future issues.
