MSEDCL filed a petition in the Mumbai Industrial Court against the Joint Action Committee for launching an illegal 72-hour strike, even as conciliation proceedings were ongoing in the Labour Commissioner’s Office.
Around 37.44 percent of engineers, officers, and employees of MSEDCL, MahaTransco, and MAHAGENCO participated in the protest, while 62.56 percent continued to report for duty.
The main issues leading to the strike included the company’s restructuring plans and other employee-related demands.
MSEDCL responded by holding several meetings with union representatives and expressing a positive and accommodating stance on their concerns. They also clarified that the ongoing restructuring was a trial initiative to improve customer service.
The timing was particularly concerning because Maharashtra was recovering from heavy rains and floods, and the Diwali festival was approaching. MSEDCL emphasized the importance of maintaining uninterrupted power supply during this crucial period.
