Mumbai: BMC Launches AI-Driven System to Accelerate Real Estate Approvals
MUMBAI: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is poised to launch an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered platform to fast-track approvals in the city’s real estate sector. This initiative is aimed at boosting ease of doing business and reducing delays in project clearances.
Announcing the move at NAREDCO Maharashtra’s ‘Change of Guard’ event, Municipal Commissioner Ashwini Bhide highlighted that the AI-led platform will integrate multiple civic approval systems into a single digital interface. “The introduction of this AI-led facility marks a significant step towards streamlining processes and enhancing transparency. We aim to reduce approval timelines and improve efficiency for stakeholders,” she stated.
The proposed system will enable developers, architects, and consultants to submit and track applications in real-time. AI tools will be deployed for document verification, compliance checks, and predictive analysis. Civic officials emphasized that the platform will also flag discrepancies and ensure adherence to development control regulations, thereby reducing manual intervention and standardizing procedures.
Mayor Ritu Tawde noted that approvals for construction proposals are already being processed within 45 days due to end-to-end digitization. She added that the civic body is committed to creating a more transparent and accountable system. Tawde also advocated for inclusive urban growth, urging developers to support infrastructure such as women’s sanitation facilities.
The real estate industry has welcomed this move, stating that faster approvals and clearer regulatory processes will help cut costs and ensure timely delivery of projects. The BMC is currently in the final stages of setting up the system and plans to roll it out in phases, along with training support for users.
At the same event, Kamlesh Thakur took over as president of NAREDCO Maharashtra from Prashant Sharma. Thakur outlined a focus on digitization, policy advocacy, and closer collaboration with the government. The body also launched a ‘NAREDCO ONE’ app to bring its members onto a unified digital platform, further enhancing communication and efficiency in the sector.
This new AI-driven system is expected to revolutionize the real estate landscape in Mumbai, making it easier and faster for developers to obtain the necessary approvals and ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget. The initiative underscores the BMC’s commitment to modernizing its processes and fostering a more business-friendly environment in the city.
