The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act is a law in India designed to protect children from sexual abuse. It provides a legal framework for the protection of children and ensures that the rights of the child are upheld during the judicial process.
The police became aware of the first incident when the victim’s mother approached the MIDC police station and reported the molestation of her daughters. The police recorded her statement and registered a case under the POCSO Act.
In the Bandra incident, the police registered an FIR after the victim’s parents reported the rape. The accused, a 21-year-old salesman, was arrested and is currently in police custody.
The 56-year-old real estate agent accused of molesting the girls in Andheri lives in the Andheri area. The 21-year-old salesman accused of raping the 14-year-old girl in Bandra lives in the same vicinity as the victim.
The police have increased patrolling in the affected areas and are working to raise awareness about the POCSO Act. They are also collaborating with community organizations to ensure the safety and well-being of children in the community.
