Mumbai-Pune Expressway to Reopen from Midnight After Gas Tanker Accident
Pune, 4th February 2026: Traffic movement on the Yashwantrao Chavan Mumbai–Pune Expressway was disrupted on Tuesday after a tanker carrying inflammable gas overturned near the Adoshi Tunnel. This incident triggered congestion and raised safety concerns along the affected stretch.
Following the incident, traffic heading towards Mumbai from the Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate limits was diverted from Kiwale onto the old Pune–Mumbai Highway. This diversion was implemented to manage the situation and ensure the safety of commuters. Officials stated that the removal of the overturned tanker is in the final stages, and the expressway is expected to reopen for traffic from midnight.
In an official advisory, the Pimpri Chinchwad Traffic Police urged citizens to avoid non-essential travel between Pune and Mumbai until the expressway reopens. “Commuters are requested to travel only if absolutely necessary and cooperate with the traffic police to prevent further inconvenience,” the advisory stated. Motorists have also been advised to plan their journeys based on live traffic conditions and congestion levels on the highway.
The advisory was issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Pimpri Chinchwad, to ensure that commuters are well-informed and can take appropriate precautions. The Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate is working tirelessly to clear the affected area and restore normal traffic flow as soon as possible.
The Mumbai-Pune Expressway is a crucial artery connecting two major cities in Maharashtra, and any disruption can have significant implications for daily commuters and commercial activities. The authorities are taking all necessary measures to minimize the impact of this incident and ensure the safety of all road users.
