The high-frequency (HF) receiving station is used for signalling purposes for flights that fly in and around the Mumbai airspace. It is a critical facility for flight communication.
The receiving station is being shifted from Dahisar to Gorai because redevelopment projects in Dahisar have been stalled due to height restrictions imposed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
Height restrictions in Gorai could limit new constructions and require existing no-objection certificates (NOCs) to be reviewed to ensure safe air operations in the city.
After the station is shifted, the land in Dahisar will remain with the Airports Authority of India (AAI), but the authority will have to develop it into a garden or park and keep it open for the general public.
The height restrictions imposed by the AAI have stalled redevelopment projects in Dahisar, affecting projects worth ₹7,000–10,000 crore and impacting more than 10,000 households.
