Mumbai's Rs 18 Cr Sea-View Homes Face LED Ad Menace

By GeoSquare News Desk · Published 2026-11-02

Mumbai's luxury property market has long been defined by one coveted feature: an unobstructed sea view. But recent sightings of floating LED advertisement barges along the city's coastline are turning this premium into a point of contention. Homebuyers who have paid upwards of Rs 18 crore for apartments in Worli, Bandra, and Juhu are now staring at glowing hoardings drifting across the water, blocking the very vista they invested in.

Floating Ads Along Mumbai's Coast

These mobile LED screens have been spotted near the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, the coastal road, and popular beachfronts like Versova and Juhu. While they offer brands a high-visibility platform, they also raise serious questions about visual pollution and marine safety. For residents of premium towers, the ads are more than an eyesore—they are a direct hit on property value.

Impact on Sea-View Premium

Real-estate experts note that sea-facing apartments command a significant premium—often 20-30% more than similar units without a view. If that view is compromised, the resale value and rental appeal of such properties could decline. Buyers are increasingly asking developers and local authorities to ensure that the coastline remains free of such obstructions.

Maharashtra Maritime Board Steps In

The Maharashtra Maritime Board has taken cognisance of the issue. It is reportedly examining the environmental and navigational risks posed by these floating structures. A regulatory framework may soon be introduced to restrict or regulate advertising on Mumbai's waterways, bringing some relief to both residents and environmentalists.
