The Dharavi Redevelopment Project (DRP) is a government initiative aimed at redeveloping the Dharavi area in Mumbai, one of the largest slums in Asia. It includes plans for rehabilitation, housing, and infrastructure improvements.
Fadnavis directed the DRP to increase the size of rental tenements to 350 sqft for ineligible residents and to 500 sqft for residents of planned buildings. He also instructed that the land in Dharavi be equally divided between the rehabilitation and for-sale sections.
The twin digital model is a survey method that uses digital technology to accurately map and record the details of slum areas, ensuring precise and reliable data for redevelopment plans.
The rental housing will be built on 256 acres of salt pan land at Mulund, Bhandup, and Kanjurmarg, and nearly 21.3 acres of Kurla Dairy land. Additional land from the Deonar dumping ground and revenue land at Aksai, Madh in Malad West will also be used.
All those settled in Dharavi post-2011 and up to November 15, 2022, are eligible for rental housing under the Dharavi Redevelopment Project.
