Nagpur Woman Cheated of Fortuner in Business Settlement Fraud

By GeoSquare News Desk · Published 2026-11-04

A 60-year-old man and his nephew have been booked by Shanti Nagar police in Nagpur for allegedly cheating a woman of her Toyota Fortuner, worth around Rs 5 lakh, on the pretext of settling an old business transaction. The incident highlights the growing risk of fraud in property and asset dealings.

The Fraud

According to the complaint, the accused took possession of the vehicle under the guise of resolving a long-pending business dispute. The woman later realised she had been duped when the accused refused to return the car or complete the settlement. Police have registered a case under relevant sections.

Safety Tips for Property Transactions

Real estate and asset transfers often involve large sums and legal formalities. Always verify the identity and credentials of the other party, insist on written agreements, and involve legal counsel before handing over any asset. Be wary of verbal promises or pressure tactics.

In this case, the woman allegedly handed over the vehicle without proper documentation, which made it easier for the accused to claim possession. Experts advise that any transfer of high-value assets should be backed by a registered agreement and clear terms.

The police have initiated an investigation, and the accused are yet to be arrested. This serves as a reminder for property buyers and investors to remain vigilant and follow due process.
