The Nagpur-Pune Vande Bharat Express is a high-speed train service launched to provide faster and more modern travel between Nagpur and Pune. It is part of India's efforts to modernize its rail network.
The executive chair car class tickets cost between ₹3,725 and ₹3,815 per seat, while the standard chair car category costs ₹2,040 from Pune and ₹2,140 from Nagpur. Additional catering charges range from ₹450 to ₹540.
The fares for the Nagpur-Pune Vande Bharat are higher than those for first-class air-conditioned travel on other trains along the same route. The inclusion of mandatory catering charges has further increased the cost, raising concerns about value for money.
By 8 pm on the day bookings opened, the trains scheduled for Monday and Tuesday had registered over 30% occupancy. The executive chair car class saw the highest demand, with more than half the available seats sold within hours.
High fares could impact the sustainability of passenger volumes in the long term and might alienate middle-income travelers. This could hinder the broader vision of encouraging a modal shift from private transport to public rail networks.
