The bungalow at 17 York Road, now known as Motilal Nehru Marg, was the first official residence of India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. It is located in the heart of Lutyens’ Bungalow Zone, one of the most prestigious areas in Delhi.
The current owners of the bungalow are Rajkumari Kakkar and Beena Rani, who are related to a royal family from Rajasthan.
The bungalow has been sold for around Rs 1,100 crore, which is lower than the initial asking price of Rs 1,400 crore.
The buyer is said to be a well-known businessman from India’s beverage industry, but the name has not been made public yet.
Lutyens’ Bungalow Zone is one of the most expensive and powerful areas in Delhi. It was designed by British architect Edwin Lutyens between 1912 and 1930 and is home to around 3,000 bungalows, most of which are government-owned and occupied by ministers and judges. The area's VIP location, large land size, and historic value make it highly valuable.
