Saunik, who retired as the Chief Secretary in December last year, is currently serving as the Principal Advisor to the Chief Minister. His appointment as the Chairman of MahaRERA was announced through a notification issued by the state housing department. Saunik was chosen from a pool of shortlisted applicants by the selection committee.
This development is significant, as MahaRERA has been taking steps to ensure transparency and accountability in the real estate sector. Recently, the regulatory body had served notices to around 16,000 real estate developers and promoters for failing to provide satisfactory responses regarding their projects. Saunik will be the third Chairman of MahaRERA, succeeding Ajit Mehta, whose term ends on September 20. He will hold the position until he reaches the age of 65.
