Manoj Saunik, a retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1987 batch, will take charge as the new chairman of MahaRERA after the current chairman, Ajoy Mehta, vacates the post on September 21, 2024.

Ajoy Mehta, a 1984-batch IAS officer, has been serving as the chairman of MahaRERA since February 2021. Under Mehta's leadership, MahaRERA has made significant progress, with over 46,000 projects registered and more than 15,000 projects completed, according to the data uploaded on MahaRERA's website.

MahaRERA has also received more than 25,000 complaints against real estate projects, with 17,000 complaints closed and hearings for around 8,000 complaints ongoing. The authority has also taken stringent actions against errant real estate agents, suspending the registration of over 20,000 agents in Maharashtra.

Manoj Saunik, who is expected to take charge on September 22, has had a distinguished career in the Maharashtra government, holding several important portfolios. He retired as Maharashtra chief secretary in December 2023.
