NMMC Sets New Record with Rs 876 Crore Property Tax Collection for 2025-26
Belapur: The Property Tax Department of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has achieved a historic milestone by collecting Rs 876 crore in the financial year 2025-26, the highest ever in a single year since the city’s formation.
This record recovery was made possible through the enthusiastic response of taxpayers, the Abhay scheme from March 10 to March 31, 2026, and a meticulously planned recovery campaign under the leadership of NMMC Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde. Dr Shinde expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all citizens for their cooperation.
Effective administration, transparency, and maximum use of technology were central to this achievement. Additional Commissioner Sunil Pawar and Deputy Commissioner Dr Amol Palwe oversaw the extensive use of online payments, digital platforms, and AI-based calling systems to reach taxpayers. Regular follow-ups via SMS, WhatsApp, RCS messages, and in-person visits ensured timely payments. Tax collection centres were kept open on weekends and holidays to facilitate citizens.
The Abhay scheme provided a 50% waiver on late penalties for defaulters who cleared outstanding dues, boosting compliance across residential, non-residential, industrial, and open plots. Nerul division contributed the highest at Rs 182.09 crore, followed by Kopar Khairane (Rs 163.40 crore) and Ghansoli (Rs 150.11 crore).
Out of 2,25,576 taxpayers, 61% paid online, reflecting a growing preference for digital payments. Continuous awareness drives and data-driven planning enhance collection efficiency. The record recovery demonstrates the civic body’s focus on citizen-friendly services, transparency, and a responsible taxpayer culture. Navi Mumbai Mayor Sujata Patil and Dr Shinde congratulated the Property Tax Department officers and staff for this unprecedented achievement.
