NMMC Takes Action: Unauthorised Construction in Airoli Demolished

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has undertaken an enforcement operation in Airoli to remove unauthorised construction carried out without the required building permissions. This action is part of the corporation's ongoing efforts to address illegal structures within its municipal jurisdiction.

The demolition action was conducted at House No. 1725 located in Deshmukhwadi, Sector 1, Airoli, within the jurisdiction of the G Ward office of the municipal corporation. According to civic officials, the property owner, identified as Keshav Gajanan Patil, had initiated construction activity beyond the approved building permissions.

The municipal corporation had earlier issued a notice to the property owner under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act, 1966. The notice, served on November 29, 2023, directed the owner to remove the unauthorised construction carried out on the property.

Officials stated that the owner was required to voluntarily remove the illegal structure following the issuance of the notice. However, the construction activity continued despite the directive from the civic authority.

Following the non-compliance, the NMMC's encroachment department organised a demolition drive to address the violation. The operation was carried out under the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde and under the supervision of Additional Municipal Commissioner (2) Dr Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Dr Kailas Gaikwad.

The demolition activity in Airoli was conducted under the control of Assistant Commissioner and Ward Officer Sadhana Patil, who oversaw the execution of the operation within the G Ward jurisdiction. Municipal officials indicated that the demolition drive resulted in the partial removal of the unauthorised structure constructed on the property. The action formed part of the civic body's broader enforcement measures aimed at ensuring compliance with urban planning regulations and approved building permissions within Navi Mumbai.

To carry out the operation, the municipal corporation deployed a team from the encroachment department along with labour personnel and technical equipment required for the demolition. The team included 14 labourers, six concrete breakers, and one gas cutter to dismantle the illegal structure.

Police personnel were also deployed during the operation to maintain law and order and ensure that the demolition activity was carried out without disruption.

Civic authorities stated that the anti-encroachment drive forms part of ongoing efforts to curb unauthorised construction within the municipal limits. Officials indicated that similar enforcement actions will continue in the future against properties found to be in violation of building regulations or urban planning provisions.

The municipal corporation has reiterated that property owners are required to obtain necessary approvals and comply with planning regulations before undertaking construction activity. Authorities stated that enforcement measures would continue to ensure adherence to statutory provisions governing urban development in Navi Mumbai.
