Over 50,000 Real Estate Agents Now Registered with MahaRERA: A Milestone for Maharashtra's Property Market
Real Estate Pune:In a significant achievement for Maharashtra’s real estate sector, the number of agents registered with the Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) has surpassed 50,000, reaching a total of 50,673.

Out of these, 31,980 agents remain active, while 18,693 have been deregistered due to various reasons, including non-compliance and failure to complete mandatory certifications and license renewals.

The Konkan region, which includes the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), leads the way with 21,050 registered agents. This is more than double the number of agents in the Pune division, which has 8,205 agents. Other regions such as Nagpur, north Maharashtra, Sambhajinagar, and Amravati have significantly fewer agents, with 1,504, 490, 343, and 237 agents, respectively.

These agents play a crucial role in the real estate market, serving as the primary point of contact for homebuyers. They are responsible for educating buyers on important regulatory provisions such as the model sale agreement, carpet area, defect liability period, and allotment letters. This ensures greater transparency and empowers consumers to make informed decisions, according to a MahaRERA spokesperson.

MahaRERA’s influence extends beyond Maharashtra, with agents from nearly 150 cities across the country, including New Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Gurgaon, Ahmedabad, Goa, Patna, Prayagraj, and Jammu, registering with the regulator. This migration highlights Maharashtra’s dominance in the real estate sector, particularly in the MMR and Pune, which continue to attract developers and investors from all over the country.

Recognizing the importance of these agents, MahaRERA has made training and certification mandatory. Many of the deregistered agents lost their licenses due to non-compliance with these requirements or failing to renew their registrations.

According to officials, the growing number of certified agents is expected to create a more standardized and regulated property market. By mandating certification and regulatory knowledge, MahaRERA aims to ensure fair practices and protect the interests of homebuyers. This move is expected to enhance the overall transparency and reliability of the real estate sector in Maharashtra and beyond.
