A 29-year-old self-proclaimed godman named Prasad Bhimrao Tamdar, alias Prasad Dada, was arrested for allegedly sexually abusing several men.
The accused secretly installed a covert phone-based surveillance and remote access application on the victims' phones, manipulating them into performing sexual acts on camera and gaining unauthorized access to their personal data.
The accused had over 1.5 lakh followers on various social media platforms where he regularly posted videos about his purported healing powers.
Police invoked the Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, 2013, and the Information Technology Act, along with Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita provisions 318 (4) for cheating and 75(1) for sexual harassment.
The accused told the victims that he needed to download a compass application to track their ruling planets (grahas) and provide supernatural remedies.
