PMC Warns Citizens Against Property Tax Fraudsters
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued a stern warning to citizens about fraudulent agents who are misleading people by promising to reduce property tax bills. The civic body has received multiple complaints of fraud, and it has clarified that no such schemes exist to reduce property tax or lower outstanding dues.
Avinash Sapkal, head of the PMC property tax department, stated, “We have noticed that some citizens are being cheated by individuals claiming to reduce tax bills or outstanding dues. There is no provision for such reductions, and these fraudsters are collecting cash from defaulters under false pretenses.”
Sapkal added that a few citizens have already fallen victim to these illegal activities. “These fraudsters are misleading people by promising to bring down the regular tax amount. The PMC has no connection with such individuals, and we will not be held responsible for any cases of cheating,” he emphasized.
In a press statement, the property tax department urged citizens to pay their dues only through official channels. These include visiting PMC citizen facilitation centers or using the online payment system. The civic body is also focusing on recovering dues from defaulters, as most regular taxpayers have already cleared their bills in the first two months of the financial year to avail of the five and ten percent amnesty schemes.
The PMC is committed to ensuring that all property tax payments are made securely and transparently. Citizens are advised to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the civic authorities immediately. By following these guidelines, residents can protect themselves from financial loss and legal complications.
