Pune Builders Must Supply Water in 32 Merged Villages
By GeoSquare News Desk · Published 2026-10-13
Builders developing housing projects in 32 villages recently merged into Pune's municipal limits will be required to arrange water supply for residents until the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) formally takes over the service, according to the latest civic direction.
Why the interim arrangement matters
With the villages brought under the corporation's jurisdiction, civic water lines and pumping infrastructure do not yet reach every pocket. Until the PMC extends its network and assumes responsibility, developers remain the interim supplier for projects already under construction or recently handed over.
Impact on homebuyers and projects
For buyers, this means projects in these fringe micro-markets will carry water arrangements as part of the builder's commitment, typically through tankers, borewells or dedicated storage. Investors should factor recurring water logistics costs into rental yields and maintenance charges in these areas.
What buyers should verify
Prospective purchasers are advised to confirm the source of supply, tanker frequency, storage capacity and who bears the cost of water in post-possession scenarios before booking in any project within the 32 villages.
Transition ahead
The arrangement is expected to continue until the PMC completes infrastructure upgrades and formally assumes supply duty, after which billing and distribution will shift to the civic body.
