Pune: Deputy CM Eknath Shinde Vows Justice in Vaishnavi Hagawane’s Murder Case
Real Estate:Wakad, 24th May 2024: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited the Kaspate residence in Pune today, offering condolences to the grieving parents of Vaishnavi Hagawane. Shinde stated that no one involved would be spared, echoing the family’s belief that Vaishnavi was murdered, not a suicide, given her deep attachment to her 9-month-old baby.

Vaishnavi was found dead on 16th May, after enduring two years of abuse by her husband and in-laws over dowry demands and character allegations.

Speaking to the media in Pimpri-Chinchwad, Shinde remarked, “This incident is deeply unfortunate and a black mark on humanity. The Kaspate family shared their pain with me. Their daughter was tortured, beaten, and subjected to monetary demands. In today’s era, when our society is so advanced, this mindset is unacceptable. A daughter-in-law should be treated like a daughter. The photos shown to me reveal the extent of her suffering, and her family is shattered.”

Reiterating the family’s claim, Shinde added, “They told me Vaishnavi wouldn’t have taken her life, especially because of her infant son. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been appointed. The Chief Minister has directed a thorough probe, and strict action will be taken against the accused. No one will be spared. We see Vaishnavi as our own daughter, and we will ensure justice.”

Responding to political criticism, particularly targeting the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) due to the Hagawane family’s alleged ties, Shinde said, “No one should politicize such a tragedy. This is a social and mental issue that demands a change in mindset. The Kaspate family expects action, not politics. There are many platforms for politics, this is not one of them.”

On reports suggesting the Hagawane family’s connection to Inspector General Jalinder Supekar and speculation that their political or police ties may shield the accused, Shinde stated, “If anyone, no matter how influential, a senior officer or politician, is found helping the accused, strict action will be taken. The Home Department and the Government will ensure justice. We’ve lost a daughter, and that’s how we’re treating this case.”
