The policy is being implemented to prevent damage to newly resurfaced roads, ensure durable infrastructure, and avoid financial setbacks due to poor inter-departmental coordination.
The Pune Grand Challenge is an international cycling event scheduled for January, which the city is preparing for by upgrading critical city routes.
Approximately ₹145 crore has been allocated for the road resurfacing project, which aims to upgrade approximately 75 km of roads.
The expected benefits include a reduction in construction-related carbon emissions, resource wastage, and the promotion of sustainable urban mobility, aligning with Pune’s vision of zero-carbon and gender-neutral urban spaces.
