The total cost of the modernisation project for Pune's sewage treatment plants is ₹842 crore.
The central government will contribute ₹252.86 crore to the project.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will bear ₹20.49 crore of the project cost and is responsible for the tendering process and implementation of the modernisation plan.
PMC is constructing 11 new STPs with assistance from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Currently, Pune treats 550 million litres per day (MLD) of sewage, and after the project is completed, the city will have the capacity to treat all 990 MLD of sewage generated daily.
