Pune Slaps ₹6.43 Crore Fine on Illegal Road Digging in Susgaon

By GeoSquare News Desk · Published 2026-10-13

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has imposed penalties totalling ₹6.43 crore on agencies and contractors responsible for illegal road digging in the Susgaon area, in a crackdown aimed at protecting road infrastructure and improving civic accountability.

What PMC Found

Municipal officials said roads were cut open without proper permissions and, in several stretches, restored only partially. Poor reinstatement leaves patches that give way during the monsoon, forcing repeat repairs and adding to maintenance costs borne by the corporation.

Enforcement and Restoration

PMC has been stepping up checks on road-cutting activity, requiring utilities and private agencies to obtain approvals, follow approved restoration standards and complete reinstatement within set timelines. Unauthorised digging now attracts penalties, with work paused until compliance is met.

Why It Matters for Homebuyers

For residents and property buyers in Pune's growing western corridors, road quality is a practical value driver. Well-maintained approach roads, reliable drainage and clear access affect daily commute times, rental demand and long-term capital appreciation, while frequent digging and patchwork repairs can weigh on a locality's appeal.

The Larger Signal

The penalty underscores a wider shift towards stricter municipal oversight of infrastructure works across Pune. Developers, utility providers and contractors in the city can expect closer monitoring of road cuts, reinstatement quality and restoration timelines in the months ahead.
