Pune Metro: Hinjawadi Link Opens, But 6 Stations Still Closed

By GeoSquare News Desk · Published 2026-10-28

The much-awaited Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar Metro corridor has been inaugurated online by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marking a significant milestone for Pune's western IT hub. However, the launch is only partial — six stations will remain closed initially, and the Shivajinagar terminus has been excluded from this phase.

What This Means for Property Buyers

The operational stretch improves connectivity to Hinjawadi, Wakad, and Balewadi, boosting the appeal of residential and commercial projects in these areas. Yet, with six stations shut and the Shivajinagar link missing, last-mile connectivity remains a challenge. Buyers should verify which stations are active before finalising investments.

Impact on Prices and Rental Demand

Metro corridors typically drive property appreciation. The partial opening may trigger faster rental growth near operational stations, while areas around closed stations could see delayed price movement. Investors should track phase-wise completion and official announcements to time their entry.

Key Takeaways for Investors

Projects near active metro stations offer better short-term returns, but the incomplete corridor means commute benefits are still limited. The exclusion of Shivajinagar reduces seamless access to Pune's central business district, so evaluate travel time carefully. Overall, the metro expansion is a strong long-term signal for Pune's western real estate market.
