Pune: Midnight Fire on 17th Floor of High-Rise Triggers Mass Evacuation

Ghorpadi, 11th February 2026: A late-evening fire on the 17th floor of a high-rise residential tower in Pune’s Ghorpadi area sparked panic among residents and prompted a large-scale emergency response on Wednesday, with multiple fire stations rushing teams and equipment to contain the blaze.

The incident occurred at Kohinoor Residency on B.T. Kawade Road, where a fire broke out inside a residential flat. Thick smoke was seen billowing from the upper floors of the building, with visuals from the scene quickly circulating on social media.

Fire brigade units from Naidu Fire Station, Hadapsar Fire Station, and the B.T. Kawade Road Fire Station were immediately dispatched to the location. To strengthen the operation, additional support was mobilised from Amanora Fire Station, which sent a Turntable Ladder (TTL) to assist in high-rise firefighting and rescue access.

Authorities also deployed a Jumbo Water Tanker from the Central Fire Station to ensure an uninterrupted water supply during the operation. As a precautionary measure, residents from upper floors were evacuated to prevent smoke inhalation and ensure safety. Firefighters worked swiftly to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent flats.

Officials said the building’s proximity to the Ghorpadi Fire Brigade office enabled a rapid response, which helped bring the situation under control more efficiently. As of the latest updates, no injuries or casualties have been officially reported. However, a detailed technical inspection is underway to assess structural safety and determine the exact cause of the fire.

Preliminary suspicion points toward a possible short circuit, though authorities have not confirmed this and said the final cause will be established after a formal investigation. Police personnel and local administrative officials were present at the scene, assisting with crowd control and emergency coordination as onlookers gathered near the building.
