Pune: New Leadership Appointed for Key Committees in Pune Municipal Corporation

Pune, 27th February 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has completed the election of chairpersons and deputy chairpersons for its various subject committees without any opposition. The formal selection process was carried out by the presiding officer and Social Welfare Commissioner, Deepa Mudhol Munde.

The Pune Municipal Corporation operates through a robust administrative framework consisting of seven committees. Among these, the Standing Committee wields the most financial authority, while the remaining six committees—education, sports, women and child welfare, city improvement, law, and naming-related matters—play a crucial role in shaping policy decisions and overseeing planning and implementation across key civic sectors.

Applications for the positions of chairperson and deputy chairperson were submitted on February 23. Since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was the only party to file nominations, all committee posts were filled unopposed.

The Law Committee will be headed by Swarada Bapat as Chairperson, with Payal Tupe serving as Deputy Chairperson. This committee is responsible for ensuring that all legal matters are handled efficiently and in compliance with municipal and state laws.

The City Improvement Committee will be led by Smita Vaste as Chairperson, with Sapna Chhajed as Deputy Chairperson. This committee focuses on urban development, infrastructure improvements, and enhancing the overall quality of life in Pune.

Alpana Varpe has been elected Chairperson of the Women and Child Welfare Committee, with Tanvi Divekar as Deputy Chairperson. This committee is dedicated to promoting the welfare and rights of women and children, ensuring they have access to essential services and support systems.

Narayan Galande has been appointed Chairperson of the Sports Committee, with Dinesh Mathwad as Deputy Chairperson. The Sports Committee aims to promote sports and physical fitness among the residents of Pune, organizing various events and initiatives to achieve this goal.

The Education Committee will be chaired by Arun Rajwade, with Atul Tarwade serving as Deputy Chairperson. This committee is responsible for overseeing the quality of education in municipal schools and ensuring that educational policies are implemented effectively.

Pallavi Jawale will head the Naming Committee, with Sunil Pandey elected as Deputy Chairperson. The Naming Committee is responsible for the official naming of streets, public places, and other municipal properties.

These appointments are expected to bring a fresh perspective and renewed vigor to the functioning of the PMC, ensuring that the needs and aspirations of the residents of Pune are met effectively.
