Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) is a rare condition where the body's immune system attacks the nerves, causing muscle weakness and sometimes paralysis. It is often triggered by bacterial or viral infections.
Common symptoms of GBS include sudden weakness or paralysis in the hands or legs, tingling sensations, trouble walking, and prolonged diarrhea. Severe cases can affect chest muscles, making it hard to breathe.
GBS is treated with immunoglobulin therapy and plasma exchange. Most patients recover fully with treatment, though recovery can take several weeks to months.
To prevent GBS, ensure good water quality by drinking boiled water, eat fresh and clean food, and avoid mixing cooked and uncooked items. Maintain good hygiene and follow health guidelines.
GBS is not contagious. It is an autoimmune response triggered by infections, but it does not spread from person to person.
