Pune: PMC Clarifies No 30% Property Tax Rebate for Elderly Residents
Pune, 20th April 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has urged senior citizens not to fall for a misleading message circulating on social media claiming that the civic body is offering a flat 30% discount on property tax for elderly residents.
Civic officials clarified that no such special concession has been announced and appealed to citizens to verify information only through official channels.
Ravi Pawar, head of PMC’s property tax department, said the fake message had created confusion and a large number of senior citizens were contacting municipal offices to enquire about the alleged rebate which also has led to confusion within the tax collection department.
The viral message reportedly claimed that the Maharashtra government had issued a circular approving the discount. However, PMC officials said they examined the message and found it to be false.
The property tax department has advised residents to contact their local ward offices or visit the official PMC website for accurate and updated information related to taxes and concessions.
Officials added that certain genuine rebates are available under existing rules. These include concessions for property tax payments made before May 31 to encourage early payment.
Additional benefits are also provided to property owners who adopt eco-friendly measures such as rainwater harvesting, solar energy systems, and vermicomposting.
