Pune: PMRDA Clears 166 Encroachments to Ease Traffic Congestion in Hinjawadi

In a significant move to address traffic congestion in the Hinjawadi IT hub and surrounding areas, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has removed 166 unauthorized structures in the last 15 days.

Real Estate Pune:Hinjawadi, 22nd July 2025: In a major step to address growing traffic congestion in the Hinjewadi IT hub and surrounding areas, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has cleared 166 encroachments in the past 15 days as part of its anti-encroachment drive.

PMRDA officials confirmed that unauthorized constructions in key bottleneck zones such as Laxmi Chowk, Wipro Circle, Maan Road, and Marunji were targeted in the operation. A survey is currently underway to identify more illegal structures, and further action is planned.

“Encroachments have become a major cause of traffic jams in the Hinjawadi-Maan-Marunji corridor. Additionally, blocked streams and drainage channels have worsened the situation in some parts. Removing these obstructions is essential to restore smooth vehicular movement and civic order,” the PMRDA stated in a release.

According to PMRDA, the following encroachments have been removed so far:
- Wipro Circle – 14 structures
- Laxmi Chowk to Mezza Nine – 38 structures
- Maan Road area – 66 structures
- Laxmi Chowk to Marunji – 73 structures (removal in progress)
- Maan Gaon Nala – 28 temporary rooms
- Hinjawadi area – 19 hoardings

The eviction drive is being carried out under the guidance of PMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase, with operations led by Dr. Deepti Suryavanshi, Head of the Unauthorized Construction Removal Department, and Tehsildar Asha Holkar along with their team.

Many local residents and business owners, upon receiving notices, have voluntarily removed their illegal structures and extended cooperation to the authorities.

PMRDA is currently conducting surveys to identify further unauthorized constructions in:
- Shivaji Chowk to Smashanbhoomi Road
- Shivaji Chowk to Wakad Road
- Shivaji Chowk to Phase 1 Road
- Across Hinjawadi, Maan, Marunji, and other surrounding areas
