A Habeas corpus petition is a legal action that can be taken to bring a person before the court to ensure that they are not being unlawfully detained. It is used to challenge the legality of the detention and to seek the release of the person.
The friend filed the Habeas corpus petition because the woman was being held hostage by her family and was being threatened and physically assaulted. The friend wanted to ensure the woman's safety and freedom.
After hearing the petition, the Bombay High Court directed the Ambegaon police station in Pune to form a team and rescue the woman from her family in Bihar.
The Ambegaon police team, led by Senior Police Inspector Sharad Zine, Assistant Police Inspector Priyanka Gore, Head Constable Vinayak Padale, and Lady police constable Nilima Jadhav, managed to locate and rescue the woman despite resistance from her family.
The court's final decision was to grant the woman her freedom, allowing her to live and work in Pune as per her wishes. The bench disposed of the Habeas corpus petition with the liberty to approach the court if any further issues arose.
