Pune Porsche Accident: Doctors Arrested for Drink-Drive Cover-Up
Real Estate Pune:The recent Pune Porsche accident has taken a new turn with the arrest of two doctors for allegedly destroying evidence and switching the blood sample of the 17-year-old son of a real estate developer. The minor is in custody for causing the deaths of two techies by crashing his Porsche into their motorcycle, while presumably drunk.

The Pune crime branch took over the investigation of the case on Friday and arrested Dr Ajay Taware, head of the forensics department at Sassoon General Hospital (SGH), Dr Srihari Halnor, casualty medical officer, and Atul Ghatkamble, the assistant at the hospital’s mortuary. The arrests were made after the police discovered that the accused's blood sample was replaced with a sample taken from an unidentified person to manipulate the outcome of the test.

According to Commissioner of Police, Amitesh Kumar, the minor's father, a prominent builder in Pune, was in touch with the head of the forensics department, adding another twist to the case. The arrests were made under Indian Penal Code sections 120(b) (criminal conspiracy), 201 (punishment for destroying evidence), 214 (gratification for concealing an offence), and 467 (forgery).

The Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) has also taken suo motu cognisance and sent a notice to Dr Holnor and Dr Taware. The state medical education department has appointed a committee to probe the lapses by the doctors of Sassoon hospital, Pune.

The case has sparked outrage, with many questioning the bail granted to the minor under provisions of the JJ Act. Pune Police have filed a review petition before the Juvenile Justice Board, asking that the boy be tried as an adult and requesting a review of the May 19 order.

The Pune Porsche accident occurred on May 19, when the 17-year-old son of a real estate developer crashed his Porsche into a motorcycle, killing two software engineers. The minor was reportedly inebriated at the time of the accident. The case has raised questions about the involvement of prominent builders and the alleged attempt to cover up the crime.

Sassoon General Hospital (SGH) is a prominent government-run hospital in Pune, Maharashtra. The Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) is a statutory body responsible for regulating the medical profession in the state of Maharashtra.
