Pune: Power Outage Affects 8,600 Consumers After Crane Collapses on 22 kV Feeder Line
Pune, 23rd April 2026: Power supply to more than 8,600 consumers was disrupted in Talawade on Thursday after a large crane collapsed onto electricity infrastructure near Jyotiba Temple around 11.30 am, causing major damage to the distribution network.
According to Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), the crane fell on a feeder line connected to the 22 kV Devi Indrayani Switching Station, affecting supply of two outgoing feeders serving Dehugaon and Talawade areas.
Officials said the outage impacted a total of 8,610 consumers, including 1,910 industrial users and 6,700 residential consumers. The crane reportedly brought down one transformer and several electricity poles, leading to extensive damage.
MSEDCL said a police complaint has been filed against the crane owner in connection with the incident. Repair work was launched on a war footing, with teams replacing damaged poles and snapped conductors. Officials said efforts were underway to restore supply by around 6.30 pm on Thursday.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of heavy machinery operations near critical infrastructure. Local residents and businesses were advised to stay away from the affected area and to report any issues to MSEDCL helplines. The company assured the public that all necessary steps are being taken to prevent such incidents in the future and to ensure a swift restoration of power services.
