Pune: Relief for NIBM Annexe Residents as Electric Pole Installation Begins
Pune, 18 March 2026: In a significant relief to residents of NIBM Annexe in Mohammadwadi, the long-pending demand for the installation of electric poles in Prabhag 41 has finally been addressed, with authorities initiating groundwork along a key stretch in the area.
Officials confirmed that pole foundation work has been completed from SM Ghule Circle up to Pristine Viva Society, paving the way for the installation of electricity infrastructure that residents say is crucial for safety and basic civic amenities.
The development follows sustained follow-ups by local civic activist Jaymala Dhankikar, who had been raising the issue with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the electricity department for several months. Residents had repeatedly flagged concerns over poorly lit internal roads, citing safety risks for pedestrians, commuters, and senior citizens, particularly during night hours.
Dhankikar said the absence of street lighting had made the stretch vulnerable to accidents and anti-social activities. “This road connects several residential societies and sees regular movement, but the lack of proper electric poles and lighting was a major concern. After continuous representations to the authorities, the work has finally begun,” she said.
Residents of nearby housing societies, including those in and around Pristine Viva, welcomed the move, describing it as a much-needed intervention. Many said the area has witnessed rapid residential growth in recent years, but civic infrastructure has not kept pace.
“The road becomes extremely dark after sunset, making it unsafe, particularly for women and children. With the pole foundations now in place, we hope the lighting system will be operational soon,” said a resident.
Civic officials indicated that the next phase will involve the installation of poles and electrification, after which streetlights will be made functional. Once completed, the project is expected to significantly improve visibility, road safety, and overall liveability in the locality.
The development is being seen as part of ongoing efforts to address infrastructure gaps in rapidly expanding suburban pockets of Pune, where residents have increasingly been voicing the need for basic amenities such as roads, footpaths, and street lighting.
