Pune's Traffic Conundrum: PMC Seeks ₹100 Crore for Missing Link Roads
Real Estate Pune:The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken a significant step towards addressing the city's traffic concerns by sending a proposal to the state government to allocate ₹100 crore for land acquisition to develop missing link roads. This initiative aims to resolve the long-standing issue of incomplete road networks in Pune, which has been a major contributor to the city's traffic congestion.

During the inspection of Vidyapeeth Chowk last week, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar instructed officials to prepare a proposal on missing link roads and forward it to the state government. The PMC Road Department has sent a ₹100-crore funding request to the Additional Chief Secretary of Finance (Planning) Department for the project.

According to Nikhil Mijar, PMC traffic planner, the civic body has prioritized connecting roads blocked by distances of 1-100 meters, 100-500 meters, 500-1,000 meters, and onwards. In the first phase, 33 missing links will be connected. So far, 14 links have been acquired, three connected, and work on the remaining links is ongoing. At present, the PMC plans to work on five major missing links and has sought ₹100 crore for land acquisition as most owners have demanded cash compensation.

The PMC has identified over 400 missing road links in the city, delayed due to land acquisition issues. This significant allocation will enable the corporation to acquire the necessary land and develop the missing link roads, ultimately reducing traffic congestion and improving the overall commuting experience for Pune's citizens.
