The Punjab and Haryana High Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the alleged felling of trees by DLF in Gurugram’s Aravallis, initiating a public interest litigation to address the environmental concerns.
According to the news report, DLF is alleged to have felled nearly 2,000 trees across 40 acres of land in Gurugram’s Aravallis for a real estate project.
The Court directed the impleadment of DLF and the Municipal Corporation, Gurugram, as respondents, and ordered the State counsel to file a status report within a week. The Registry was also directed to issue notice to the remaining respondents without the payment of process fees.
The Aravalli range is a crucial ecological buffer that plays a significant role in maintaining the ecological balance, providing habitat for various species, and helping to regulate the climate.
The next hearing in the case is scheduled for 26-06-2025, where the Court will review the status report and take further action as necessary.
