Rajasthan Village Heads Urge Government to Maintain Tenure Amidst Election Reforms
Real Estate News:Jaipur A delegation of village heads from Sarpanch Sangh, Rajasthan, met with additional chief secretary of rural development department, Abhay Kumar, on Friday to discuss the tenure of village heads, pradhans, and district chiefs. The meeting comes amidst the government's proposal to implement 'One State, One Election' in Rajasthan, which may lead to panchayat and municipal polls being conducted simultaneously.

The village heads, who were elected to their posts almost a year later than the scheduled time due to staggered panchayat elections in 2020, are urging the government not to reduce their tenure. Nearly 4,000 village heads were elected in January 2020, while around 7,000 were elected in October 2020.

A similar model from Madhya Pradesh has been provided to the government for extending the village head's tenure, and officials concerned were instructed to examine it. The Sarpanch Sangh spokesperson, Rafique Pathan, stated that they were assured that appropriate action would be taken in the matter.

The sangh members also met with chief secretary Sudhansh Pant, ACS finance Akhil Arora, and cabinet minister Sanjay Sharma to demand the release of FFC, SFC, and MGNREGS funds amounting to Rs 7,000 crore that have been pending for the past 2-3 years.

According to the Sangh, instructions have been given by the finance department to release the outstanding amount for SFC amounting to Rs 143 crore for the year 2023-24.

The meeting highlights the concerns of village heads amidst the proposed election reforms in Rajasthan. The government's decision to implement 'One State, One Election' may have significant implications for the tenure of village heads and the functioning of panchayats in the state.

In other news, the Tamil Nadu government has appointed Shiv Das Meena as the chairman of the Tamil Nadu Real Estate Regulatory Authority (TN RERA), filling a post vacant for six months. N Muruganandam will succeed Meena as the chief secretary from Monday.
