Pradip Sawant, a 31-year-old real estate agent from Sukhsagarnagar, was injured when his friend accidentally misfired a pistol at an open plot off Gangadham Chowk-Kondhwa Road in Pune.
Initially, the friends tried to cover up the incident by lying to the police and claiming that an unidentified person had shot at Sawant near the Swami Narayan Temple on Katraj-Dehu Road bypass.
The CCTV footage showed that no shooting incident had occurred near the Swami Narayan Temple, contradicting the friends' initial claims.
Anil Chavan, a real estate agent and friend of Pradip Sawant, was arrested by the Kondhwa police on Sunday afternoon for his involvement in the incident.
The police are now investigating how Anil Chavan obtained the illegal firearm and for what purpose he had it.
