Real Estate Developer Gunned Down in Broad Daylight in Chandigarh’s High-Security Sector 9

A 31-year-old property dealer, Charanpreet Singh, was gunned down in broad daylight in the high-security Sector 9 area of Chandigarh on Wednesday. The victim, a resident of Kubbaheri village in Mullanpur, was targeted by bike-borne assailants as he was entering his car after exiting a local gym.

According to eyewitness accounts and preliminary police findings, the attackers fired approximately 12 rounds at Singh, who collapsed in the driving seat with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest, abdomen, and arms. Following the attack, Singh’s associates rushed him to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in a private vehicle. However, sources indicated that due to excessive blood loss, he was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.

The brazen nature of the crime has sent shockwaves through the city, particularly as the incident occurred just minutes away from the offices of the Chandigarh Administration and the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP). Local Congress leader Kamaljit Singh, who reached the spot, revealed that Charanpreet was a bachelor who had been running a real estate business for several years and had opened his own office about 18 months ago.

Kamaljit Singh alleged that the victim had received several threatening calls recently and had formally approached the police for protection. He claimed that despite these reports, the police failed to provide security to the developer, and his application for an arms license was also reportedly pending at the time of the murder.

Senior police officials, including SP City KM Priyanka and DSP Dalbir Singh, arrived at the crime scene along with a forensic team to initiate a detailed investigation. While the forensic unit recovered 12 empty shells from the site and conducted videography of the area, the police remained tight-lipped regarding the motive behind the killing. When questioned by the media about the back-to-back firing incidents in the city, following Tuesday’s shootout at Panjab University, DSP Dalbir Singh declined to comment on any potential links, stating only that the investigation is currently underway and all leads are being followed.

The incident has raised serious concerns about the safety and security measures in one of the most secure sectors of Chandigarh. Local residents and business owners are demanding a thorough investigation and accountability from the authorities to prevent such incidents in the future.
