The Draft Registration Bill 2025 is a proposed legislation aimed at replacing the 117-year-old Registration Act of 1908. It seeks to modernize property registration processes by enabling online registration and digital maintenance of records.
The bill will enhance transparency, reduce fraud, and simplify procedures, making it easier for developers, homebuyers, and investors to conduct transactions. It will also improve the ease of doing business and boost confidence in the market.
Key features include online registration of land documents, alternate verification mechanisms, electronic presentation and admission of documents, issuance of electronic registration certificates, and digital maintenance of records.
Key stakeholders supporting the bill include the Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India (CREDAI) and the National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO).
The draft bill has been placed for public feedback and is under consideration. Once enacted, it will replace the existing Registration Act of 1908.
