The accused is Deepak Goswami, a 22-year-old medical representative and B.Pharma student from Meerut.
The motive was a rejected marriage proposal. Goswami had been stalking the victim, Mahipal, after his proposal to Mahipal's daughter was declined.
The police identified Goswami by reviewing CCTV footage from over 50 cameras, which showed him trailing Mahipal for several weeks.
A case under Section 103 (murder) of BNS and under the Arms Act has been registered against Goswami.
The confrontation occurred when Goswami confronted Mahipal on a deserted stretch in Badalpur, leading to a heated argument about the marriage proposal, which resulted in Goswami shooting Mahipal.
