RERA stands for Real Estate Regulatory Authority. It is an independent statutory body established to regulate the real estate sector, ensuring transparency, accountability, and compliance with the Real Estate Regulation and Development Act, 2016.
RERA was notified in Meghalaya on February 18, 2020, under the Real Estate Regulation and Development Act, 2016.
The primary objectives of RERA in Meghalaya include ensuring compliance with the provisions of the Act and its rules, providing an inbuilt adjudicating mechanism for swift resolution of disputes, and protecting the interests of homebuyers through regulatory oversight.
The RERA office in Meghalaya is located at the Urban Affairs Complex, Kharmalki (behind Shillong Law College), Dhanketi, Shillong.
Failure to comply with RERA regulations may result in penalties and regulatory action under the Real Estate Regulation and Development Act, 2016. Promoters, developers, and real estate agents are urged to register themselves and their projects as mandated by the Act.
