Real Estate:The residents of Karapur-Sarvan in Bicholim are up in arms against a mega real estate project that aims to develop 1,700 plots on lakhs of square metres of land in the village. The project, being promoted exclusively for non-Goans at the Goa Property Expo scheduled in Gurugram and Noida, has sparked outrage among the local community and activists.

Activist Swapanesh Sherlekar alleged that the property is being developed in connivance with the government, which is disastrous for the state and its people. Rohan Savaikar pointed out that the existing infrastructure in Karapur is already under pressure and cannot support the additional 1,700 plots.

Advocate Ajay Prabhugaonkar questioned the kind of development being projected in the village, comparing it to the situation in Dhargalim village. Dayanand Sawant opposed the project, citing the pressure it would put on the existing infrastructure, including water and electricity supply.

When contacted, Karapur-Sarvan sarpanch Tanvi Sawant said that the gram sabha would discuss the issue in a meeting scheduled for this month.
