Revamping Slums: PMC's Ambitious Rehabilitation Scheme to Transform 22 Pockets in Pune
Real Estate Pune:The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is all set to launch a comprehensive slum rehabilitation scheme in 22 pockets across the city. This ambitious project, which falls under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), aims to provide dignified housing to thousands of slum dwellers in Pune.

The scheme has been cleared by the Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA), and the PMC is currently in the process of finalizing the tendering process. The project is expected to be completed within the next three years, with a total investment of Rs 1,200 crore.

The 22 pockets identified for the rehabilitation scheme are spread across various wards in the city, including Warje, Kothrud, and Dhankawadi. The PMC has already conducted a thorough survey of the slums, identifying a total of 10,000 families that will benefit from the scheme.

Under the PMAY, the central government provides a subsidy of Rs 1.5 lakh to each beneficiary, while the state government contributes Rs 1 lakh. The remaining amount is borne by the beneficiary themselves.

The PMC has also partnered with private developers to execute the project. The developers will be responsible for constructing the housing units, while the PMC will provide the necessary infrastructure, including roads, water supply, and sewage systems.

The slum rehabilitation scheme is a major step towards transforming the urban landscape of Pune. With the city's population growing rapidly, the need for affordable housing has become a pressing issue. The PMC's initiative is expected to not only provide dignified housing to slum dwellers but also free up valuable land in the city, which can be used for other development projects.

In addition to the PMAY, the PMC is also exploring other options to address the issue of affordable housing in the city. The civic body has proposed a new policy for affordable housing, which includes provisions for incentivizing private developers to construct affordable housing units.
