The new guidelines require RMC units to erect a canopy covering most of the plant to prevent dust from spreading in nearby areas. The canopy must cover raw material handling, silos, loading area, conveyor belt, mixing unit, and the main plant.
RMC units and developers are seeking an extension due to operational requirements and the need for better coordination between the MPCB and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for issuing permissions to build additional structures.
Non-compliance with the new guidelines can result in legal action from the municipal corporation. Additionally, commercial and captive plants will have to provide a bank guarantee for operation and maintenance.
There are around 200 commercial RMC units in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad areas.
New commercial RMC plants must be located more than 200 meters from schools, colleges, hospitals, and courts.
