Sharad Pawar Pays Tribute to Late Nephew After Meeting with Deputy CM Sunetra's Sons
Hours after a closed-door meeting with the sons of former Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Sharad Pawar and his wife Pratibha Pawar paid a heartfelt tribute to their late nephew at his residence in Baramati. The visit took place on Wednesday, February 4, and was a significant moment for the family and the party.
The meeting, which was held at the premises of Vidya Pratishthan in Baramati, lasted about one and a half hours. It was attended by Sunetra Pawar and her sons, Parth and Jay. This visit came just days after Sunetra Pawar took the oath as Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister following the tragic death of Ajit Pawar in a Baramati plane crash.
Though there was no immediate official word on the agenda of the meeting, sources indicated that the discussions might have centered on the possible merger of the two NCP factions and the upcoming Zila Parishad elections. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has been divided into factions, and this meeting could be a step towards reunification.
Earlier in the day, Sharad Pawar released a statement expressing his happiness over Sunetra Pawar stepping into Ajit Pawar’s shoes. He praised her for taking over as Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister and highlighted the family’s focus on moving forward together. “The family and party’s entire focus is on taking care of everyone and moving forward together with those who are grieving. As of now, there is no discussion at all about any political decisions,” he added.
Sharad Pawar also addressed the recent political developments, particularly the discussions around the merger of the two NCP factions. He clarified that the discussions were held between Ajit Pawar and Jayant Patil, and not with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. “What right did he have to talk about it?” Pawar questioned, emphasizing the internal nature of the discussions.
The visit and the meeting highlight the ongoing efforts to maintain unity within the NCP and address the leadership vacuum left by Ajit Pawar’s untimely death. The family’s resilience and the party’s commitment to moving forward together are evident in these actions.
As the political landscape in Maharashtra continues to evolve, the NCP’s internal dynamics and the role of the Pawar family remain crucial. The coming days will likely see more developments in this regard, as the party and the state navigate the challenges ahead.
