The main demand of the small-scale industries in Pimpri Chinchwad is the establishment of an industrial park in 120-125 acres in Kudalwadi to accommodate the affected industrial units demolished in the anti-encroachment drive.
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar promised to instruct the civic commissioner to prepare a proposal for the industrial park and to hold a meeting in Mumbai to discuss the feasibility of the project.
The other long-pending demands raised by the industrialists include the completion of the common effluent treatment plant (CETP) and a new hazardous waste processing facility for Bhosari MIDC.
Environmentalists have raised concerns that the width of the rivers is being reduced, which could increase the risk of flooding. They have also flagged large-scale tree cutting for the project.
A committee will be formed to coordinate further works, and the corporation has been directed to study the impact of recent heavy rain on the rivers and check whether the project works have caused flooding.
